PITTSBURGH, Penn., September 25, 2026 – The Cigna Group brought employees and nonprofit partners to Acrisure Stadium for an event celebrating the collective power of coming together to build healthier communities. Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier joined more than 400 employees of The Cigna Group for the event, which combined hands-on volunteerism and charitable donations to benefit local nonprofit organizations.
Deepening community investment through hands-on service
Employees from The Cigna Group worked together to assemble wheelchairs for veterans with mobility challenges served by Veterans Leadership Program, a nonprofit organization that provides housing, employment and supportive services to veterans and their families across Western and Central Pennsylvania. A grant recipient of The Cigna Group Foundation, Veterans Leadership Program demonstrates how support for trusted local organizations can be extended through hands-on employee service.

Employees worked side by side to assemble wheelchairs that will support veterans served by Veterans Leadership Program across Pennsylvania.
"Partnerships like this create impact on multiple levels," said Toshua Jarrett, Chief Development Officer, Veterans Leadership Program. "The support we receive from The Cigna Group Foundation helps us expand services for veterans and their families, while events like these bring employees directly into the work. Seeing volunteers build wheelchairs for veterans they may never meet is a powerful reminder that strengthening communities requires both investment and personal commitment."
Investing in local organizations that strengthen communities
During the event, Ryan Shazier shared his personal recovery journey and highlighted the importance of ensuring individuals recovering from spinal cord injuries have access to the resources and support they need to live independently and thrive.
The David and Sherry Cordani Family Foundation announced support for the Ryan Shazier Fund for Spinal Rehabilitation, which helps individuals and caregivers navigate life after spinal cord injury. Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania also joined the event to highlight opportunities for participants to support local youth.
"I know how important the right support can be during recovery from a spinal cord injury," said Shazier. "This investment will help more people access specialized wheelchairs and resources that can make a meaningful difference in their lives. I'm grateful to The Cigna Group and The David and Sherry Cordani Family Foundation for helping create new opportunities for independence, mobility and hope."
Volunteerism strengthens vitality
Events like this one are part of The Cigna Group's broader commitment to volunteerism and community engagement. In 2025, employees contributed nearly 114,000 volunteer hours, generating an estimated $7.1 million in economic value through volunteer service.

More than 400 employees of The Cigna Group gathered in Pittsburgh for a day of volunteer service, community partnership and charitable giving benefiting local nonprofit organizations.
The Cigna Group's recent Vitality in America research found that people who volunteer are more likely to report stronger health, connection, resilience and purpose. The findings demonstrate how employee volunteer opportunities can benefit communities while helping individuals build the connections that support vitality.
“The strongest community impact happens when local partnerships, philanthropy and volunteerism come together," said Sara Quist, president of The Cigna Group Foundation. "By supporting nonprofit organizations and creating opportunities for employees to serve alongside them, we're helping strengthen communities while building the connections and sense of purpose that contribute to health and vitality.”
