Helping Humanitarian Efforts in Ukraine

The attack on Ukraine is a difficult and tragic situation, and collectively, we are thinking of the people in harm’s way and joining all those calling for peace.

The situation will have long-lasting repercussions physically, emotionally and economically, as the people of Ukraine are dealing with the terrible consequences of this war. There is damage to buildings and key infrastructure. There are shortages of food, water and other essential supplies. Millions are displaced. It is estimated that as many as 18 million Ukrainians need emergency assistance.

Several countries that border Ukraine have declared a state of emergency. Millions of people have fled Ukraine into neighboring countries. Most families leaving Ukraine will do so with very little. They are facing an uncertain future and unimaginable challenges. Most of all, they need shelter and safety from the fighting.

There are several organizations that are mobilizing support on the ground in the local area to serve families most in need. In support of critical humanitarian efforts to help the Ukrainian people, Cigna, the Cigna Foundation and Cigna employees have made significant donations to the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Red Cross and UNICEF. These three organizations generally complement each other in terms of the resources and support they provide, including providing emergency cash for basic needs, delivering lifesaving information, working to meet urgent needs such as clothing, health supplies, transitional shelter, and counseling support to address trauma, and more. Cigna Foundation is matching all employee donations to the Ukraine response funds of IRC, Red Cross and UNICEF to further support the humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

Our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people and everyone affected by this tragic unfolding of events. We hope a peaceful resolution can soon be reached.
